This small restaurant is managed by a husband and wife team ; she is a charming hostess and if you need some help understanding the menu, she will explain in English.

In summer it is wise to book beforehand as the restaurant is popular and often full. In our opinion it is the best value of the restaurants in this area. The food is fresh (the vegetables come from the owner's garden) and the cookery is inventive with the menu changing daily.

Open for lunch and dinner week-days except Friday evening and Saturday, but open all day Sundays when the menu is 18 euro including wine. Lunch time menu 12,50 euro; 4 courses including wine

Evening menu also 12.50 euro including wine. If you choose a superior menu, the wine is not included. The service is efficient and friendly, the Patronne will come and greet you, then take your order. It can get very busy so a good idea to reserve your table. If you arrive about 7.45 p.m you will be served ahead of the rush, the restaurant does get very full in summer. The food is generally very good and freshly cooked : the cuisine is mainly French, but they do a couscous evening on Wednesdays which has to be booked in advance. The servings are very generous and the Plat du Jour changes every day as well as a choice which is always available.

LA TERRASSE DU CHATEAU DE DURAS

Open for lunch and dinner every day in the summer In the off season, the restaurant is open from Thursday to Monday, lunch and dinner

There are NO set meals, everything is a la Carte You can choose from the printed menu card or the choice chalked up on a slate on the wall. This changes daily and is the Plat du Jour, (Chef's choice of dish for the day)

Lunch time menu is approx 16 euro.
Evening meal with starter, main course and a drink will be approx 30 euros .
Desserts are in the region of 7 euro Wine isn't included.

The cuisine is mainly traditional and nicely served. Fish and chips are on the menu, the batter is not quite like that from an English fish and chip shop.
The sharing plateau for 18 euro is a great starter with a copious amount of charcuterie and cheese for 3 or 4 people.

It is best to reserve beforehand here, the restaurant is fairly small and always full in summer, especially in the evening. The service is friendly and welcoming. It's a good idea to go early because the service slows down from 8 p.m. In summer eating on the terrace looking out on the Chateau of Duras in the sunset makes a memorable evening.

LE SYMPA RESTAURANT ST. VIVIEN DE MONSEGUR

Open at mid-day and evening every day in summer. Friday evening is Tapas Night and the restaurant itself is closed ; the tapas and wine are served in a marquee just by the side of the restaurant. The tapas nibbles are free, and you pay for the drinks. This is a popular venue for a meeting with friends in the summer.

The owners, Francoise and Serge give everyone a friendly welcome ; Serge used to run a catering business, but for the last few years he has concentrated on his restaurant.

The cuisine is traditional French, his speciality is fish ; John Dory in Roquefort sauce and fillet of Bass with a white butter sauce are prominent on the menu. There are 3 set menus 15 euros: 4 courses including wine, 18 euros: 4 courses but wine is extra, and another menu a little more expensive.

The value for money is exceptional, the servings are generous and the quality is good. This little restaurant in a tiny village has become one of our favourites.

HOSTELLERIE DES DUCS DE DURAS ***

Restaurant is open all of July to September Closed Monday and Saturday lunchtimes Other times of the year, must ring and check their opening times.

There is a set menu for lunchtimes which is approx. 16 euros. For A La Carte menus the price range is about 45 euros and wine is extra. Champagne comes in at a high price here 80 euros a bottle if not more.

Opinions on this restaurant differ enormously ; from an excellent welcome and perfectly cooked food to the opposite. Some people have commented that it is pretentious and expensive compared to prices elsewhere for the same dish.

The cuisine is traditional French and the restaurant and hotel are run by the Blanchet family. The restaurant and hotel used to be a Convent, it is an imposing building in the heart of Duras.
